David J. Schneider, MD, FACC, FAHA - Director
In August, 2013,David Schneider, MD, was named to succeed Burton E. Sobel, MD, as Director ofCVRI-VT. Dr. Schneider is a Professor of Medicine at The University ofVermont andDirector of Cardiovascular Services for The University ofVermont Health Network.
Following medical school at the University of Cincinnati andresidency at the University of Colorado, where he served as Chief MedicalResident, Dr. Schneider completed his fellowship at Washington University, St.Louis under Dr. Sobel.
Dr. Schneider has won awards as both a student and aphysician/scientist (including UVM’s 2013 Department of Medicine ResearchMentor Award for mentorship of a fellow or resident) and has been named teacherof the year four times. He has an active research program focused on causalconnections between diabetes and heart disease, and the role of platelets inthe development and progression of atherosclerosis.Dr. Schneider holds several patents includingthe use of a novel biomarker, FcɣRIIa, asa precision tool to guide care of patients with atherosclerotic vasculardisease
He is active in national and international professional societies,is a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Cardiology, andhas published more than 150 manuscripts, authored numerous chapters, and edited abook titled Diabetes and Heart Disease.
