(Bob) Westover, a Billings, MT pioneer who owned the earliest auto garage in town and was instrumental in early aviation by establishing the Billings Airport and sponsoring barnstorming and air sightseeing ventures, and Helene Hansen Westover; brothers Robert W. Westover of Redmond, WA and Joseph E. Westover of Brooksville, FL; and sister, Annabel (Bicki) Westover.

Bill was one of two children born to Harris Sage and Hattie Stecker. He attended school in Raymond and Cusik and graduated from Cusik High School in 1943. Bill entered the Army on April 22, 1943 and served until January 6, 1946. He then began his career with Pacific Northwest Bell, where he worked until his retirement in 1981. Bill married Alene J.

Kanikeberg on July 8, 1951; they were married until Alene's death in August 1979. Together, they had two children, Linda and Betty. After retirement, Bill began dating Elaine Vogt and they were together for more than 25 years. Bill and Elaine loved to travel and spent many years wintering in Arizona, he also loved spending time at Flathead Lake with Elaine and their dog, Lilly. His many hobbies included bowling, golfing, and boating.

Bill is survived by his long-time companion, Elaine; her son, Rex and his wife Carol and brother, Bob. He is also survived by his daughters, Linda Park, Betty (Phil) Woodward; grandchildren Chris (Amanda) Park, Jon Park, Ashley, Bobby, and Amber Kipp; and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Park. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alene; sister, Doris; and his parents. Bill was a wonderful man with a kind and gentle heart; he will be missed by all who knew him. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, June 27th at 1:00 PM at St. Gall Catholic Cemetery in Colton with Father Felix Lorge officiating. A memorial potluck reception will follow at 5:00 PM at the St. John Community Center, Bill will lie in state at Bruning Funeral Home where friends may call on Friday morning from 8-11 AM. Bill was born March 29, 1949 in Portland, OR to Elmer and Eileen (Entel) Schmidt.

His family moved to the Rosalia area when he was two years old. Bill attended Liberty School District before the family moved to St. John in 1963. He graduated from St. John High School in 1967.

Bill attended Central Washington University for a short time before he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He volunteered to go to Vietnam and served in Saigon as a Military Policeman. Upon being honorably discharged he returned to Eastern Washington. He attended college at EWU in Cheney and joined his parents in their insurance business in St.

John. Bill never married. He assumed ownership of the Schmidt Insurance Agency in 1993 and retired last year in 2007. Bill was a member of the Kenova Grange at Pine City, the VFW, American Legion and the NRA. He liked to read.

He is survived by his mother, Eileen Schmidt of St. John; a brother, Gene and Wendy Schmidt of Bridgeport, WA and their family, Tony and Kris; brother-in-law, Matthew Simek of Gig Harbor, WA and his family, Sarah and John Fitzpatrick, Erica and Jennifer Simek; a sister, LaVonne Grun of Sitka, AK and her family, Jeff, Christine and Chris McGraw and Cadance, Tim and David; a sister Arlene Schmidt of Sunnyvale, CA and her daughter, Ariana; and a sister, Joanne and Jerry Hartman of Issaquah, WA and their family, Andrew, Seth and Nyan. Was born February 9, 1953, in Spokane, WA, the son of Richard and Lorraine Sweetland. He passed away on May 31, 2008 at age 55 after a short battle with lung cancer. Eddy attended Longfellow and Logan Elementary Schools, Shaw Middle School, and Rogers High School.

Eddy was a selftaught guitar player and loved all kinds of music. He left a vast collection of music on albums, tapes and discs. He was also a collector of old movies and television series, including Bonanza and Wild, Wild West. He possessed several collectable Batman and Superman movies. He also enjoyed gardening and bike riding, but most of all spending time with his friends and family.

He was a very kind and gentle person. He never complained and always put others first. As one friend recently said, "He was the nicest man I have ever met." He worked for many years at restaurants in Spokane and Seattle until an accident in Seattle left him with health problems that made working impossible. He was a very good artist and created drawbeings and wall art for restaurants in Spokane and Seattle. His favorite time of the year was Christmas, when for many years his large family gathered at his parents' home for the exchange of gifts, dinner and much laughter.

Eddy was greatly loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Diane Henneman, Carol Bross and Becky Olson (Rick); one brother, Daniel Sweetland; best friends Colin Holt, Mike and Angie Wagner, Julie Davis, Brad Read, and Kristi and Wes Hood; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He served a mission for the church in the Gulf States Mission. He was involved in the lives of his grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events and performances. He shared his love of horses and the outdoors with them.

In his later life he discovered he had a talent and a love of art. He painted and left many pictures for his loved ones and had a very successful art show in 2006. The legacy he left behind was one of love for his family. He died on June 19, 2008 in a farming accident on his farm near Cheney, WA. At the time of the accident he was doing what he loved to do best driving farm machinery. Bill graduated from Woodland High School in Woodland, WA in June 1941. He married Gwendolyn R. McEwen on October 15, 1942.

They had met at a camp meeting in Gladstone, OR when Bill was 14 and Gwen was 13. Shortly after their wedding day, Bill was drafted into the Army, and served with the Army Airforce throughout World War in the Pacific Theatre. After returning home from the war, Bill worked in the timber industry until he finally retired for the last time at age 74. He owned the Jensen family farm in Cedar Creek and a farm in Spokane, WA. Bill and Gwen, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 15, 2007, had lived in College Place, WA for 46 years.

For the past four years they have lived near Cheney, WA on the property of their eldest daughter. Bill was active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church as an elder and worked for decades with the Youth of his church. He was outgoing and generous, was a great tease, loved to sing, whistle and hum. He also loved to entertain young people, especially through out-door activities. Bill is survived by his wife, Gwen of Cheney, WA; his sister, Edna Craik of College Place, WA; his daughters, Carolynn Bohlman of Cheney, WA, Dianne (Jon) Frost of Salinas, CA, Melinda Blake of Cheney, WA, Carmen (Rusty) Rima of Bullhead City, AZ; and his son, William (Wendy) Brown-Jensen of Redlands, CA.
