(Age 84) a resident of Moses Lake, WA, formerly of Ritzville, WA. passed away at his home November 26, 1999, following a gallant battle with emphysema.

Mr. Haight was born October 14, 1915 at Ritzville, WA to Lyman Edward and Ethel May Blackwood Haight. He graduated from Ritzville High School in 1932 and Kinman Business University in Spokane in 1935. Edward Haight married LaVerne Mary Kubik, October 1, 1938 at the rual home of her parents near Ritzville. They originally operated a dairy farm near Sprague, WA.

In 1942, he began employment at the Marcellus Grange Supply which he managed until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1945. In the fifties, he was the proprietor of the Union 76 service station in Ritzville and later owned and operated the Richfield bulk plant. In 1954, he took over his father's farm east of Ritzville in the Carico Hills, moving from there to Block 40 north of Moses Lake in 1964, where he farmed and raised hogs until his retirement in 1978. He was an avid athlete, playing baseball with the Marcellus Grange and the Ritzville Ramblers teams and basketball with the Kinman Business University team. He spent many years as a football and basketball referee and baseball umpire for eastern Washington high schools and was selected several years to be a referee at the State basketball tournaments.

His avocations were fishing, hunting, bowling and gardening. He was always active in community work, serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Ritzville Fire Department; a member of and past Master of Marcellus Grange in 1947; a member of the Ritzville Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees); the Ritzville Lions Club; and a member of the Mileage Panel on the War Price and Rationing Board. He was a member of the Grant County Cattleman for many years, serving as Treasurer from 1978 through 1988. He was an active member as a youth, winning a trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Illinois. He continued as a 4-H leader most of his adult life, working both with garden and livestock 4-H groups.

He was selected as Adams County Soil and Conservation Farmer of the Year and later served on the Ritzville Soil Conservation Board. He was elected to the Ritzville Board in 1952 and served as Chairman in 1956-1958. Haight was appointed to the State Fair's Commission by Governor Dixie Lee Ray in 1977 and served for six years traveling around Washington State reviewing and judging county fairs. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; five children: Sherry Ann Strohmaier (Mrs. Gary) of Touchet, WA, Charlotte LaVerne Hardt (Mrs.

Forrest) of Spokane, WA, Eddie Dene Krause (Mrs. Ron), Roxanne Rae Cobb (Mrs. Richard), all of Olympia, WA, and Patrick Lyman Haight and wife, Cindy, of Moses Lake, WA; fifteen grandchildren: Jeff, Jay, Greg and Jon Strohmaier, Daphne Ann Kison Erickson, Mary Mae Hardt (Andrews), Sean Hardt, Dawn Hardt Lehman, Robert Krause, Cindy Krause Frost, Penny Lopez, Rebecca, Jared, Ashley and Nicholas Haight; thirteen greatgrandchildren. At his request, there will be no services. Cremation will be followed by a private family interment.

Robert survived by two brothers, Charles Miller and William Miller, both of Spokane; two sisters, Katherine Miller and Irene Miller, both of Spokane; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. Robert was a member of Eagles Lodge VFW Post and the D.A.V. Hel loved the outdoors and spent much time at his Priest River property where he liked to fish and tell humorous stories. He was the oldest of six brothers who served during World War At Robert's request, no funeral services will be held.

Benedict's, St. Edward's and St. Anne's grade schools in Seattle, Holy Names Academy, Seattle, earned a BA from Marylhurst College, an MA and a Ph.D. in English from Loyola University. She pronounced her vows as a Sister of the Holy Names in 1935.

She taught at St. Mary's Academy in Portland from 1935-1941, and then began her career in higher education at Marylhurst College in and Holy Names College in Spokane. She taught English, chaired the English Department, and then assumed the position of College President from 1955 to 1970. Under her leadership, Holy Names College moved from a small campus to the grounds of Fort George Wright, expanding the campus by over 75 acres! Following her presidency, sister remained as a faculty member, and then Poet in Residence at Fort Wright College of the Holy Names. In 1993, Sister came to the Convent of the Holy Names to assist in the Archives, from which she retired in 1997 due to ill health.

Her community continues to appreciate her achievements in leadership, her books of poetry, her faith and tenacity, her ability to be a friend. Sister Bernadette Carlson is survived by a sister, Anastasia Lightfoot, and a brother, Raphael Carlson, both of Seattle. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. George was a member of the East Spokane Kiwanis Club, Spangle Grange, and a longtime Liberty School Board member and South Hill Bible Church. He was past president of the Downtown Kiwanis.

Preceded in McDUFFIE, Dorothy Beatrice (Age 81) passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at Parkside Nursing Care Center. She was born on June 17, 1918 in Northport, WA to Jackson and Effie (Bradshaw) Wardner. At the age of ten years, Dorothy moved with her family to Spokane, WA. At that time, she began attending Sunday School in the First Christian Church where she became acquainted with a young boy named Adrian McDuffie. Eventually, they became steadfast friends as they attended grade school, Libby Junior High and Lewis Clark High School.

Several years after high school, on May 4, 1940, they became lifelong partners in a loving and committed marriage of 59 years. They had lived in Spokane, Sunnyside, Walla Walla, LaMarque, Texas, and located to Yakima, WA in 1960. Together they raised and loved three daughters, Susan, Ellen and Sharon and saw their nine grandchildren, who they loved dearly, into young adulthood. Dorothy had a gentle spirit and tender sweetness and cherished life and those dear to her. She taught us the virtue of patience, forgiveness, kindness, and the faith to have hope through life's difficult times.

She believed that God realizes and takes care of even the tiniest sparrow and gave us the exampie of Christian values. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker always preparing pleasant meals, sewing many clothes for her three daughters and herself and crocheting beautiful doilies and afghans which are cherished treasures to her family. She particularly loved children and they brought unmeasurable joy to her. She had a special way of drying tears and turning a child's frown into a smile and thusly, was a very special "Nanny" to all of her nine grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Susan Lommers and husband, Matthew, of Wapato, WA, Ellen Washburn and husband, Rick, of Yakima, WA, Sharon Dantini and husband, Gary, of Naples, FL; nine grandchildren: Kirk Carlisle of Seattle, WA, Landon Lommers and Aaron Lommers of Wapato, WA, Wade Whitman and wife, Tina, of Naches, WA, Jason Whitman of Selah, WA, Heath Whitman and wife, Nica, of Bear, DE, Kirsten VonDolteren and husband, Foy, of Anchorage, AK, Jennifer Feil and husband, Andy, of Wenatchee, WA, Luke Ehlis of Spokane, WA; a sister, Alice Hilby of Spokane, WA; brother-in-law, Sidney Kistier of Spokane, WA; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was employed by The Spokesman-Review, Tacoma News Tribune and by the San Diego Tribune, where he retired after 16 years. Ferrell loved to fish and shared this love with his entire family.
